 09/04/2026

Over the last few days, I have been much troubled by the things of this world and troubled by the  absence of the "burning within my heart" experienced by the disciples on the road to Emmaus.

When I question myself about this dimming of fervour, however, I answer myself with the words of St Peter, "Lord where could I go for you have the words of Eternal Life".

I know that I have an absolute need to continuously renew my baptismal promises in order to travel with the despondent yet open heart of the disciples who were brought back to the joy of "hearts burning with faith"  when they knew that it was the  Resurrection breaking the bread of salvation for them.

St Luke's reminiscences of the first Church in the Portico of Solomon record for us the continuity with the Old Testament that was an essential part of their Faith. Resurrection Faith was a completion not a replacement  of the revelations that had assured them that they were always supported by God.

You are the sons of the prophets

and of the covenant that God made with your fathers,

saying to Abraham,

“And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”

God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness

Dear Lord, In these  days 2026,  you know that it is the deeds of your Chosen People who are still too self-centred to accept the revelations made to the prophets and whose stiff-necked pride is emulated by many who claim to be Christians, which absorb my thoughts. Help all rulers to know that "My kingdom is not of this world" is an unequivocal simple statement of truth as is "Thou shalt not kill" and help us all to avoid the personal sins from the consequences of which you saved all mankind. Help us all to avail ourselves of the sure source of the grace needed to avoid sin that you created during your agony on the cross by your words to Mary and John,

"Woman behold your son. Son behold your mother."

You are the sons of the prophets

and of the covenant that God made with your fathers,

saying to Abraham,

“And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”

God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness
